Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-Colored Fillings

We have very good reasons for providing our patients with tooth-colored fillings. One, of course, is appearance.

Many of our patients who got metal fillings years ago now find they have darkened. These dark areas show when they smile and if they laugh or yawn, they show off every dark filling they ever received. Tooth-colored fillings match the color of your natural teeth so they simply disappear.

These fillings also have the quality of bonding well to natural tooth tissue. Many people don’t know that metal fillings didn’t really bond to tooth material. Therefore, a larger area of tooth had to be removed so these fillings were surrounded and supported by tooth enamel. The composite resin material of tooth-colored fillings does bond to the material of your teeth. So we don’t need to drill as much when we’re treating a cavity. This added bonding capability also enables the filling material to strengthen a tooth that’s been filled or repaired.
