Implant-Supported Bridges and Dentures

Implant-Supported Bridges and Dentures

If you are missing multiple teeth or all your upper or lower teeth, you may benefit from implant-supported bridges or dentures. In either procedure, there are multiple ways to solve a patient’s problem. Dr. Lipson starts each treatment with a consultation with the patient to determine the best solution after considering their jawbone density, which teeth are missing and the patient’s preferences.

Bridges

When a few teeth in a row are missing, a bridge can be created that will attach to dental implants. The implants are placed in the jaw by an oral surgeon. Dr. Lipson works with skilled oral surgeons in the Tinley Park area to ensure the implants are precisely placed in the best location in the patient’s bone. These implants are monitored as they heal and bond with the bone. The patient is given a temporary bridge until the implants heal.

When healing is complete, a permanent bridge is manufactured of durable porcelain. It is designed to exactly match the patient’s teeth and fit snugly between the person’s natural teeth. Dr. Lipson then attaches this bridge to the implants.

Partial or Complete Dentures

The process is similar for partial or complete dentures. For complete dentures, four or more implants are carefully placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw. When they are healed, Dr. Lipson then designs the dentures after consulting with the patient on their preferences.

Partial dentures go through a similar process. The best location is chosen for the implants that will support the partial denture. The partial is designed to match the patient’s natural teeth and is connected by Dr. Lipson after the implants have healed fully. We provide the patient with temporary partial or complete dentures to wear as the implants heal.

Implant-supported dentures can be removable or permanently fixed to the jaw.
