Implant Dentistry

When teeth have been lost, dental implants offer our patients the most advantageous method of tooth replacement. After struggling with missing teeth for years, or with partial or complete dentures, our patients are happy to find out that there’s a superior way to replace the teeth they’ve lost.

And patients who thought their healthy teeth would need to be modified for a bridge to be placed are glad to learn that healthy teeth can be left alone when they choose a dental implant.

Dental Implants

When an individual tooth is missing, Dr. Lipson works with carefully-chosen oral surgeons in the Tinley Park area so that the implant (the metal “root” of the replacement tooth) is placed perfectly in the bone of the jaw. When the implant has healed fully, the crown—the replacement tooth itself—can be attached.

Dr. Lipson designs the crown with careful attention to how it matches the patient’s natural teeth. When fit, color and shape are confirmed as ideal, he then attaches this crown securely to the implant.

Implant-Supported Bridges and Dentures

Implants can also anchor bridges and partial or complete dentures.

To anchor a bridge to replace three missing teeth in a row, two implants are placed in the jaw, one at each end of the gap. A bridge is created with three replacement teeth. Two teeth will be anchored to the implants and the middle tooth will fill the empty space. With dental implants anchoring this bridge, it’s not necessary to reshape healthy teeth to allow a crown to cover them.

Similarly, with dentures, carefully placed implants serve as a secure foundation for partial or complete dentures. Finally, there’s no more shifting of dentures, no more dietary restrictions and no more gooey adhesives. Implant-supported dentures are the closest thing to having your natural teeth back.
